Been eyeing this place for a while, as I've never been to a South African focused shop nor have I had the meal in a pie cuisine. The shop keeper was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I got the Shepherds Pie and Beefsteak Pie. I also picked up some sausage roll jerky and oat biscuit crackers/cookies? Both pies were amazing. The pastry was solid and tasted so good!!!! Meats were delicious and had a terrific texture and flavors. The jerky was interesting. It had a good outer texture but the inside was almost creamy. Mind u this is sausage jerky, not mainstream American style. But it tasted good. The biscuit/cookie/crackers thing came in a box and is so addicting. I couldn't put them down. Place is a small market. Cool South African cuisine, delicious meat pies. Very easy to find and get to. Plenty of parking out front and in back.
Wow they know how to make a good meat pie! I had the lamb pasty - very delicious on every level. They have lots packed in a relatively small shop, I wish I could try it all! A few South African drinks to choose from in the fridge as well. I’ll be back to try the other pies and sausage roll!
Ok so WOW. I have never tasted one of these pies before but now I’m hooked. The crust is sooo soft and so flaky and crispy and the filling is amazing. 10/10 would order again (every day). The man who served me was also the nicest man ever.
If you’re thinking about trying this spot out, run don’t walk. The pies here are out of this world. They’re beautifully flaky, filled to the max, very flavorful, and they’re huge (one whole pie can be a lunch portion). The man at the counter was so friendly and made us feel completely at home. I bought some frozen pies to eat at home as well. I can’t wait to come back!!
We live in Deltona Florida and we drive 3 hours to go to this place. My wife is from Cape town SA. Its the closest place for her to get authentic SA food. The meet pies are the BEST that I've tried and I'm Puerto Rican. We always take frozen ones home and the Biltong is the BEST, fresh all of the time.There's no other place around like this one. Absolutely the best meat pies you have ever eaten...the crust and meat filling is amazing! Since these are so delicious you will want to bring a cooler and purchase some frozen meat pies to make at home. They carry yummy South African items in the market and best butter cookies. You will be glad you found this wonderful gem of a place!
This was my first time visiting Meal in a Pie and it was a wonderful experience! The girl behind the counter was more than happy to answer all of my questions and make some delicious recommendations. I got a few different meat pies to-go (my favorite was the steak and kidney!) and I loved how buttery and flaky the crust was! I also got some candy treats and a few pantry items. Can't wait to go back and sample more items!
Havent been here since pre covid, so happy this place is still open! Pies are still delicious and they even make biltong in house now!
